Are You a Camper or a Climber?

There are two types of business professionals: campers and climbers. Which one are you?

  • Campers reach a certain level of success, get comfortable, and then back off. They seem to settle in, to set up camp, and just hang out doing things they’ve always done. They don’t try new things because what they were doing obviously worked – at least to a certain point.
  • Climbers figure that if what they’re doing is successful, there must something more they can do to be even more successful. They are moving up and looking for new techniques or ideas they can grab hold of to elevate them. They are looking higher at constant improvement.

As you’re wrapping up 2012 ask yourself if you’ve been a camper or a climber. Then ask yourself what you want to be for 2013.

  1. Sometimes you need to camp so you can see the next summit more clearly. As one that somewhat camped for a few years I am now looking at the next summit with no fog or clouds in the way. So for this next tax season I’ve hired a non-family member person as the fourth member of my staff and some growth ideas relating to this. For a few years growth was consistent because of referrals. Recently my Internet presence seems to have expanded even though I have no website so we’ve been getting clients that aren’t referrals. That said every so many years I have flyers delivered in the area of my office so plans are to send some in January. There’s always new home owners needing tax help and new sole proprietors ready to find bookkeeping help.
