Are You Connecting?

Do you dread attending networking meetings because you know you will walk out with a handful of business cards but no true idea as to what the person does? More importantly, you don’t even know whether they are a good fit with your business and vice versa. How can you possibly be a business partner with them when you haven’t even truly connected?

Perhaps you need to change your mindset and look at networking meetings as a way to reconnect and strengthen current relationships with associates as well as a way to connect with new associates and potential clients. By connect I don’t just mean swapping business cards. Connecting involves setting an appointment to get together, sit down and get to know one another. It’s been said time and again that potential clients want to do business with someone they “know, like and trust.”

Think back to the last time you attended a networking meeting. Even virtual accountants attend networking meetings! When you went, did anyone there have an opportunity to get to know, like and trust you?
