Prior to a visit from my housekeeper, I was thinking of an Albert Einstein quote: “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”

Taking this quote in a slightly different direction, “How cluttered is your mind?” Are there too many thoughts, ideas, half-formulated plans floating around in there, cluttering up the works? There are some steps you can take to clear the clutter and this can only lead toward enhanced productivity:

  • Put it on paper or in your electronic planner. Taking the clutter from your mind and capturing it somewhere helps clear your thoughts. Relying on memory for your daily to-dos is stressful.
  • Find a place for everything. An organized workspace even if you work virtually (and mind) helps you get items done. The time you save looking for something is time you can be productive.
  • Take a breather. Simply taking a physical break will clear the clutter mentally. Taking a short walk or going up and down a few flights of stairs is like hitting the refresh button on your internal computer.

Clearing your mind of mental clutter will naturally make you a more productive you!
