As an entrepreneur stress may be a part of your daily life. There are times it may feel more stressful to be at the helm of my virtual accounting firm, but the rewards far outweigh any drawbacks.

If the stressors of the day feel a bit too much to bear, here are tips for managing them:

  1. Take a break. Get away from your desk and get out into nature. Talk a walk around the block. Getting up and away from the computer Picture2screen can be liberating and calm you.
  2. The attitude you put forth is the attitude you will get back. Look for the silver lining in every situation. Also, the way you greet the day, and clients, will set the tone for the entire day or conversation. Spend time in the morning counting your blessings; that will help you face the day with a smile!
  3. If you’re toiling away at your virtual office and have no interaction with the outside world, you need to get out and touch bases with other people. Call a friend, family member or colleague and grab a coffee. Even going to the coffee shop and talking to the baristas or people in line will suffice. Isolation can be draining.
  4. When you’re stressed, you may get the munchies and reach for potato chips or something sweet for a quick pick me up. Keep healthy foods on hand that will fuel you for the long run and won’t pack on the calories!
  5. If you have given up on hobbies because you’re too busy, take a step back and make time to do something other than work. Pick up those knitting needles, get on that bike, walk your dog (or your neighbor’s dog if you’re like me and don’t have one!), read a book, or plant a garden. Rediscover a lost hobby and make time for it daily – even if it’s only 15 minutes!

You won’t be an effective business owner if stress is weighing you down. Take control and manage it!
