Five 60-Second Stress Busters

If you’re like me, there are times during the course of running your business where you simply need to take a break. You also know that as a business owner, you can’t usually close up shop and take a bike ride, a swim or a long soak in a warm hot tub. There are simply too many tasks that need your attention.

You can, however, take a 60-second stress relieving break and come back refreshed and ready to face the rest of your day. I read these in a magazine recently and I haven’t tried them all but I certainly will when I am in need of a quick mood boost. I always want to be top of my game for my valued clients!

  • Enjoy some chips and salsa! Yes, a snack break can clear your head and the capsaicin in the salsa instantly brighten your mood. The capsaicin will also activate neurons in your brain and sharpen your thinking!
  • Take a break from work and update your Facebook status with an “I am thankful for…” or “I feel blessed because…” or “I am happy today because…” status. Just thinking happy thoughts will lighten your mood.
  • Take a crossword or Sudoko break. The mental stimulation of these types of word/number games boost your self esteem and your mood (especially when you answer correctly!)
  • Change your clothes! If you work from home sometimes it might be tempting to work in your sweats or pjs. Resist the urge. Get dressed, do your hair and makeup and dress for success!
  • Did you know that certain pressure points can offer a quick lift? Research shows that if you lightly scratch your arm or your leg that you will get an instant mood elevation. The reason? Scratching will stimulate your sensory nerves and boost your mood.

What do you do in 60-seconds or less to boost your mood and your productivity after a day at the office?
