How Do You Protect Your “Brand”?

So many business owners work hard to build their business and forget about protecting what they have built. Here are just a few things to think about:

  • Buy the URLs for your company name and service name. We were finally able to purchase the .com for The Accountant’s Office that wasn’t available 9 years ago when we started the business. We also have YourVirtualAccountingOffice.com and .biz which is our service name among others.
  • Trademark your service name and all unique phrases. We have several in process.
  • Contact the Corporation Commission to check name availability and register any “dba” (doing business as) or trade name. The later is not required, but it is good business practice.

Spend a few minutes now thinking about what you need to protect and it could save you from expensive problems down the road.
