Implement a Referral Program

As a virtual accountant, many of my new clients come from referrals. Word of mouth is the best way to grow a business, I think. What better way to get a new client that with having a current, satisfied client spread the word about the great services you provide?

Here are my best tips for receiving referrals from current, or past, satisfied clients:

  • You have to ask! If you don’t ask for a referral, your client probably won’t think about it. Ask and you just may receive!
  • If you receive a referral make certain you follow up right away. Don’t let a referral call linger or you may lose the opportunity. If you’re not being responsive to a potential new customer and that could give them an indication of how you would respond once they become a client.
  • Provide feedback to the person who provided the referral, thank them, let them know what transpired. If the referral leads to a new client, send an appropriate thank you gift.
