In the Middle of the Night…

I don’t go walking in my sleep but I often have great ideas come to me in the middle of the night. That’s usually when clarity comes and creativity flows. Capturing those thoughts is important. But how?

Here are a couple of ideas I’ve used:

  • Keep a notepad by your bed to jot them down. Be sure to tear them off or else you’ll write the next great idea over the last one!
  • Throw your notes on the floor. When you get up you’ll crunch them under foot and remember to pick them up and process them.
  • Keep a recorder or your phone with a recorder app by your bed in case you don’t think you can read your written-in-the-dark handwriting.
  • I like to do all this with the lights off. The goal is to capture the ideas, not wake up.

Last night in less than a minute I thought of this fantastic Biz-Tip for you, but I fell back asleep before I wrote it down. So frustrating now!

If the title of this Biz-Tip had you thinking of Billy Joel’s song The River of Dreams, enjoy it here . Where does your inspiration come from?

Enjoy!

  1. Many great songs have been a note in the middle of the night. And I’m sure many great inventions. Note taking is so beneficial when done correctly.
