The Power of Six

Is your “to-do” list longer than your arm? One of the things I loved about my PDA when I first got it is how easy it is to move tasks from one day to the next. Now it’s one of the things that I dislike about my PDA.

My friend and mentor Patricia Drain taught me a better way: The Power of Six. I’ve gone back to paper for this. A small card sits on my desk in a little clip stand. Each day I write on it the six things – just six – that I plan to complete that day. The catch is that Patricia says that I can’t go on to #2 until I finish #1! So if #1 could take all day, I need to plan to work it for an allotted time – like 15 or 30 minutes. So my #1 goal might be work on my marketing plan for 15 minutes. That might also be my #6 goal, to revisit that project for another 15 minutes. In the meantime, I’ll hopefully being accomplishing #2, #3, #4 and #5 on my list. If not, they go on the list for tomorrow or the next appropriate day.

If you’d like a copy of our “The Power of Six: Do It!” card, send me an email at Carolyn@TheAccountantsOffice.biz and we’ll send you some via snail mail.

P.S. If you have an organization that would like Carolyn to speak on The Power of Six, just let us know.
