What’s Your Story?

If you’ve never written down some of the things that happened to you as you were growing up including things were said to you or things that you overhead, do it now. It’s a fascinating exercise. I had a great childhood in a strong family. I was wanted, loved, and cared for and yet I recently discovered something that was an underlying tenet of our family culture that I have unknowingly battled against all my life.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • What was your family culture?
  • Are there beliefs, habits, phrases, limitations or expectations that you are still carrying around with you that don’t serve you well?
  • Are there any old beliefs about yourself or about life that you need to let go of?

Hopefully you were blessed with a wonderful, loving family as I was. Even if you were, you may find, like I did, that there are some aspects of what you always thought were true that no longer are for you. If you do, let it go. Your story from this point on will be much different.
