Completion Complex

I don’t know about you, but I definitely suffer from Completion Complex. It may be because I’m a recovering perfectionist. Whatever the reason, I’ve got it. It’s particularly bad on Fridays (which is the day I’m writing this).

What is it? Completion Complex is a serious disorder that affects many business people, but is especially prevalent among business Picture1owners. You focus so hard on getting something finished or getting to “a good stopping point” that you ignore all logic and common sense.

You know you have Completion Complex when:

  1. You ignore the grumbles in your tummy while finishing a project only to find that you’re taking your lunch break after 2 pm.
  2. In your efforts to finish “just one more little thing”, it’s dark by the time you leave your office.
  3. You can’t relax because there’s still work to be done.

Newsflash! There will always be work to be done!! No matter how much time you put in, there will always be one more thing (at least!) that you could finish up.

The prescription: Relax already! What doesn’t get done this morning or today, will get done tomorrow or another day. More important that getting all the work done is taking care of your health and enjoying what you do.
