Default or Override?

Just like our computer and the software on it, we have our own default settings. When we get in difficult or challenging situations, those defaults may not serve us well.

Should you use your default or should you override?

  • Know your defaults. Where are the areas in which you’re always vulnerable? Do you interrupt, get angry, try to control situations or business behaviormicromanage?
  • Plan your overrides. How could you react that would serve you better? What response from you would bring about a better outcome? Stop. Breathe. Rethink.
  • Understand your timing. Don’t do things that are challenging when you know you’ll be stressed, tired or rushed. Protect yourself.

Small improvements in the way we handle situations by adjusting our defaults will yield amazing results. Try it!
