Is It True?

If you see it on the internet it must be true, right? We all know that’s false, but how much of what else we’re exposed to is false? When we treat a falsehood as if it was real, we head down a path we should never be on.

Two vital areas to examine:

  • Your thoughts – Your thoughts don’t have to be true to hurt you; you just have to believe them. Sometimes we put limitations on truth ourselves thinking things like “I could never do that!” or “Our Company isn’t big enough for this.” Challenge your thoughts and explore your options. As Christopher Robin said to Winnie the Pooh, “Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
  • Your financial situation – As an accountant I see so many people looking at an inaccurate or incomplete financial picture. The scary thing is that you make important decisions based on what you think is true. This can apply to you personally or for your business. Unless you have an accurate Balance Sheet or Statement of Net Worth, you have an incomplete view of your finances.

Ask yourself on a regular basis: Is this true? Keep asking, exploring, and adjusting until you’re sure the answer is “Yes!”
