Trap Them!

Good ideas can be as elusive as butterflies. They flit into your mind quickly and can disappear in the blink of an eye. Trying to recover Picture1them can be difficult if not impossible. So how do you trap them? I have a system for that! (Those of you who know me well know that I have a system for everything!)

Hints for trapping great ideas:

  1. Have a place to write them down handy (I use Notes in my iPhone)
  2. Note the backstory (when, where, how the idea came to you)
  3. Act on it before it grows old (ideas are meant to be explored)

Want to get more good ideas? Try these:

  1. Read and expand your mind
  2. Journal a question like: “What if…?”
  3. Take time to be quiet

Before we went paperless in 2002 I used to have a file folder name IDEA FACTORY. It was filled with slips of paper of all sizes, shapes, and color with ideas on them. If you aren’t paperless, you might consider that.
