Who Do You Trust?

We all know the old axiom: People do business with people they know, like, and trust. When you first meet people, how do you know if you can trust them? Trust takes time to build; it is earned, not granted.

Here are some factors that impact whether you’re trustworthy:

  • Do you do what you say you’ll do? If you promise to send information, do you send it? Do you call at the time you’ve scheduled a conference call?
  • Be honest. Telling something false is a sure way to destroy trust. If you lied to me about one thing, what else did you tell me that wasn’t true?
  • Be consistent. This is where testimonials are so valuable because you have a history of consistency with these people.

The motto of the Better Business Bureau is “Start With Trust.” As Stephen M.R. Covey says in his book The Speed of Trust, “Trust is the one thing that changes everything!”

FYI:  I’ve been invited to do a seminar for the Better Business Bureau on “The #1 Mistake Business Owners Make and How to Fix It!” Save the date: Thursday, November 21st from 11 am -12:30 pm and watch for details later.
